Python product engineer

That simple idea has made us indispensable for millions of people. Teachers rely on us to get students from K-12 writing and reading. Families adore us for our constant stream of stories. And tweens and teens use us to connect with each other and express their angst.

We're one part educational platform, one part real-time publishing, and one part social network. It's a gummy mix that's a big engineering, product, and community challenge. We're looking for passionate teammates who can help us build an elegant environment for people to tell their stories. We want domain expertise, a history of pragmatic problem solving, an emphasis on self-management, and the savvy to contribute to product development in any role.

Product engineers take ownership of key features and work hand-in-hand with front-end engineers and designers to build elegant and engaging products. We look for Python and Django experts with strong production experience who optimize every interaction to be smart and fast.

Your role:
-Write and maintain elegant code, building out re-usable models and libraries
-Continually improve our production environment
-Design and code features that shape how people experience Storybird
-Help define and grow the engineering team

Your skills:
-Expertise with Python and Django
-A history of high quality production web apps
-Ability to turn initial designs into functioning features

You have:
-Five to seven years experience
-Entrepreneurial mindset (we're a startup)
-Easy-going personality (team fit is crucial)
-Strong written and verbal communication skills (we value clarity)
-Results focused (you maintain a high signal to noise ratio)

Telecommute option:
This job is open to North American candidates with a preference for Toronto or New York applicants. However, we'll hire wherever we find the best talent and fit. (The Storybird team is spread over four cities.)
